Who we are

Picture The Lusitania Foundation for University and Entrepreneurial Development is an institution regulated by Canon Law. It was established on March 18, 2009 by a decree of D. Jorge Ortiga, Archbishop of Braga and Primate of All Spain, in accordance with the Concordat of 2004 established between the Holy See and the Portuguese Republic. Its status as a legal person under Canon Law and Civil Law was confirmed by the Civil Government of Braga on March 23, 2009. In accordance with Portuguese law and its statutes, the Foundation is a nonprofit institution of the Catholic Church, a religious legal person and a private social welfare organisation. . It has adopted the legal form of a Foundation for Social Security, without prejudice to the religious spirit and discipline that inspire it.

Picture The Foundation is based in Guimarães and originates from the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, an institution that has existed for 275 years and is represented in 77 countries with over 5,500 members around the world. From the outset, the congregation has distinguished itself in the pursuit of its main goal which is the thesupport to the Poor and the Needy Worldwide. The Lusitania Foundation was established to integrate the work done over centuries and to create new paradigms in sustained creation and distribution of wealth in specific areas such as attitudes, culture, knowledge, and better-distributed economic outcomes.
